The curing chamber is the heart of a retread line — it's where the new tread bonds permanently to the casing under heat and pressure. And the single biggest decision when you buy one is how it generates that heat: electric elements, or a steam boiler. That choice shapes your setup cost, your running cost, your footprint, and how much day-to-day hassle you take on.
This guide lays out both honestly — where each wins, where each doesn't — so you can match the curing chamber to your shop.
Regardless of heat source, every curing chamber does the same job. The enveloped, built tire is placed inside, and the chamber applies controlled heat and pressure for a set time. That combination vulcanizes the cushion gum between the casing and the new precured tread, creating a permanent bond. Precure retreading cures at a relatively low temperature — roughly 95–115°C — which is part of why the heat-source decision is less about raw power and more about cost, control, and convenience.
Steam chambers heat the tire using steam generated by a central boiler and piped to the chamber. It's the traditional method, and it still runs in many large plants.
Electric chambers — the kind we supply — generate heat with electric heating elements built into the chamber, with a fan forcing circulation for even temperature. There's no boiler and no steam line; the chamber is self-contained.

You avoid the boiler's capital, licensing, footprint, and maintenance, and you get precise, consistent curing in a package that fits a smaller shop and a smaller team. It's the lower-cost, lower-hassle path to a running line.
Steam earns its place at the top end — a large plant running many chambers continuously, especially one with an existing boiler. If that's you, steam's scale economics are real. For everyone else, electric wins on nearly every practical measure.
